Become an Election Judge

Did you know every election McHenry County has an election judge shortage?  If we want to assist the County Clerk in the task of achieving accurate/unquestionable election results we need to supply adequate election judges. 

What Election Judges Do

  • Set up the polling place and equipment

  • Greet voters and check them in

  • Issue ballots and answer voter questions

  • Ensure a fair, accurate and secure voting process

  • Close the polls and complete required reports

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen

  • At least 17 years old
    (must be 18 by the next General Election)

  • Registered to vote in Illinois

  • Reside in McHenry County

  • Able to read, write and understand the English language

  • Not a candidate for public office in the election

  • Not an immediate family member of a candidate on the ballot

  • Willing to attend required training (online and/or in person)

 

Time Commitment

  • Work all election days.

  • Most polls are open 6:00 AM–7:00 PM.

  • Arrive by 5:15 AM for setup.

  • Stay until all duties are completed.

Compensation

Election Judges are paid for training and for working election day.

(Rates set annually by the McHenry County Board)

  • $220 – Election Day Judge

  • $255 – Head Judge

  • $25 – Training Pay
