Become an Election Judge

Did you know every election McHenry County has an election judge shortage? If we want to assist the County Clerk in the task of achieving accurate/unquestionable election results we need to supply adequate election judges.

What Election Judges Do

Set up the polling place and equipment
Greet voters and check them in
Issue ballots and answer voter questions
Ensure a fair, accurate and secure voting process
Close the polls and complete required reports

Qualifications

U.S. Citizen
At least 17 years old
(must be 18 by the next General Election)
Registered to vote in Illinois
Reside in McHenry County
Able to read, write and understand the English language
Not a candidate for public office in the election
Not an immediate family member of a candidate on the ballot
Willing to attend required training (online and/or in person)

Time Commitment

Work all election days.
Most polls are open 6:00 AM–7:00 PM.
Arrive by 5:15 AM for setup.
Stay until all duties are completed.

Compensation

Election Judges are paid for training and for working election day.

(Rates set annually by the McHenry County Board)

$220 – Election Day Judge
$255 – Head Judge
$25 – Training Pay
